It’s sale season. If you haven’t heard, the big one is upon us, the Nordstrom semi-annual sale.
I usually shop online. Why? Because A.) there are usually have more sizes online than in stores and B.) it’s my therapy when I’ve had a particularly trying moment at work. Some people drink wine to unwind, I like to look at beautiful things. However, online shopping is dangerous. You end up spending either more time or more money than you ever wanted to . So, how do I navigate the internet wormhole of online shopping? Here are my tricks.
1. Filter by your size.
(Especially for those big semi-annual sale promotions). You don’t need to fall in love with something that doesn’t come in your size. No one needs that type of heartache. Save that disappointment for online dating. It often significantly reduces the inventory to something that’s a bit more manageable, saving you time.
2. Don’t buy it right away.
Sometimes we fall for ‘love at first sight’ and get a little trigger happy, especially when you’re doing a little retail therapy at work because you just got out of a tough meeting. You’re exhausted. You’re online shopping. All of a sudden, you need that hot pink sparkly scrunchie and you pull the trigger. DON’T. Instead, add it to your cart and walk away for a few hours. If you come back and you still love that scrunchie, go for it. If you realize that you had gone momentarily gone insane, then you saved yourself the hassle of actually owning a hot pink sparkly scrunchie.
3. Only shop at stores that free return shipping.
Or have a brick and mortar location nearby so you can return in store without too much effort. In my opinion, paying for shipping is the worst, especially when it’s for something that just didn’t fit right. So, no only am I suffering disappointment from an ill-fitting outfit, I now have to part with $5-$7 for return shipping. That’s at least 2-3 doughnuts. Wouldn’t you rather have 2-3 doughnuts to soothe your disappointment than paying for shipping? I thought so.
