Last week was unexpectedly brutal, exhausting, and mentally draining.
It’s for that very reason that this blog post is a week later than expected. I came home every day and only did one of two things:
- Ran off to the gym to work off my frustrations. I’m apparently that person now (WHO AM I??)
- Immediately found some comfort food (e.g. box of Trader Joe’s Cheddar Rockets, a box of Girl Scout Samoas, etc. Basically a box of something) and plopped myself in front of a Bravo show
Sometimes it was both. Either way, I crawled into bed early (10:30 pm is pretty early for me) every night, hoping that next day might be better. It wasn’t.
I have a regular day job. A 9-to-5 that often feels like a cross between Office Space and the actual film, 9 to 5 with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton. I’m an IT consultant by day; entrepreneur and blogger by night. It certainly keeps me busy. Every so often, my meticulous plan gets thrown into a tizzy when an unexpected shit storm sucks up all my energy. Last week was one of those weeks and as a result, my side hustles were put on the back burner.
However, it’s a brand new week and I’m hoping for productive and sane one. *Fingers crossed.* My fashion armor for this week will feature strong but comfortable pieces, like this look, in hopes of setting the right tone.
Styling Tip –
This look was easy because I let the skirt do all the work. The plaid pattern is simple and timeless. The colors really make the pencil skirt special – green and blue with a surprising bright red stripe. The oversized, matching belt adds a little function to the fashion, ensuring that my waist is cinched into the perfect hourglass shape. The skirt could be paired with almost any top – black turtleneck sweater, white pussy-bow blouse, or a simple dark blue silk sleeveless top. However, I chose a light gray merino wool sweater, which works well for this transitioning weather and season. It also plays off the antique silver toned earrings and ring from Kendra Scott.
It feels very Joan, à la Mad Men, which seems fitting for this week. I could probably use a little bit of Joan’s savvy, wit, and sass to tackle what’s ahead.
Watch out Draper.
