It’s that time of year again. The holidays are upon us, as are the holiday parties! Although it’s barely December and I’m still working on decorating my place, I already have several ‘save-the-dates’ on the calendar for holiday gatherings, including the annual office holiday party.
Last year, I sported a work-appropriate look with sequin pants and silk shirt. There is something about sequin pants that really puts you in the holiday spirit! But this year I wanted to put together an outfit that’s a little bit more understated. Yes, you read correctly. Understated. No, hell did not freeze over. It’s just fun to switch things up from time to time.
Enter, the velvet dress.
Velvet is my one of my favorite fabrics – the texture looks so luxe, especially when it’s a deep jewel tone. This dress is a beautiful sapphire blue and is just so classy, with the faux-wrap silhouette and lace detailing on the sleeves. It’s something that still feels holiday, but I could still wear throughout winter.
To add a little flair and funk, I paired it with the contemporary Issey Miyake Bao Bao bag, which plays off the white in my Zara studded flats. I consciously chose flats over heels because I find that I’m usually standing the majority of the time during an office holiday party, networking with my coworkers. I especially don’t want to do the “achy feet shuffle” from standing heels, only to find myself relegated to a seat in the corner, an hour into the party. I opted for comfortable but still very fashion-forward shoes. To finish off the look, all you need is some white and gold statement earrings, to pull everything together.
Dress: Zara. Also comes in blush!
Shoes: Zara, old. Also love this and this. Could also style with white kitten-heeled booties like this.
