Happy Halloween! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. It’s a great excuse to play dress up, wear over-the-top makeup, and get in touch with an alter ego. Or maybe it’s the kid in me who likes to sit down with a bag of Kit Kats and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as I watch Hocus Pocus, Casper, and probably Harry Potter (for good measure).
If you caught me on Instagram, you probably saw my Wednesday Addams for the Smithsonian’s “Night of the Living Zoo” party this past weekend. It was an easy costume, pulling the black dress and white collared shirt from my current closet. If you still need an idea for tonight, try Wednesday! All you really need is a little black lipstick.
Beyond Halloween, it’s full-on autumn mode. There’s officially bite in the air and the black tights are out in full force. Sweaters in warm fall colors are an obvious choice right now, but I wanted to feature something a little different — a patterned patchwork with fall florals.
Mixing patterns is always confusing, so it helps when someone does it for you like this Zara dress here. I especially love how the patterns sweep asymmetrically down the body, drawing your eye all the way down. The dark floral patterns are perfect for the fall and winter. Layer it under a fitted leather jacket and you could wear to from day-to-night.
I also love how ‘Spanish’ this look feels – maybe it’s the large polka dots, reminiscent of a flamenco dancer’s dress. Might actually be a good option for a Day of the Dead costume. Here’s to next year’s idea!
What are you wearing this Halloween?
Dress: Zara. Similar here and here.
Shoes: Tahari
Bag: Zara.
Earrings: Kichecko Goods.

This dress fits you fabulously! I love the pattern mixing – I think if I saw it on a rack, I would be like, “What?!” but seeing it on a person, the mix totally works!
